Amazing benefits of Honey

There is much more to honey than the sweet thick golden brown liquid we know. Throughout history, honey has been used for all sorts of purpose from energy booster to treating wounds. The ancient egyptians used honey to treat open wounds to prevent infection. It was noted that Cleopetra used raw honey as part of her skin and hair care treatment to look young. Even the Al-Quran of Muslims has mentioned honey as a healing for mankind.

" And thy Lord taught the bee to build its cells in hills, on trees and in (men's) habitations..... there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for mankind. Verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought'.
(Translation of Quran 16:68-69)

Some of the benefits of honey are :

  • As an enegy booster - honey is a natural source of carbohydrates providing strength and energy to the body. It contains sugar such as fructose and glucose, simple sugars that our bodies can absorb directly.
  • Honey improves the body's system of immunity as it contains a wide variety of nutrients that the body needs such as vitamins B, B1, B3, B5, B6, C , K and E and minerals like calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, sulpher and iron, zinc and amino acids. Of course the actual nutrients vary from the kinds of nectar the bees extracted, to make the honey from.
  • Honey is a source of many ezymes that aids in the digestion process such as amulase, invertase, diastase , lipase and catalase enzymes.
  • As a natural healing agent to treat open wounds and burns as it contains an enzyme called glucose oxidase that when combined with water produces hyrogen peroxide, a mild antiseptic. In addition to this the antioxidants and flavanoids in honey functions as antibacterial agents.
  • Honey as a beauty treatment. Honey is a natural moisturizer, it is humectant, having the ability to attract and retain moisture and rebuild moisture level in the skin without making it oily. This is the reason why many anti aging skin care and hair treatment products uses honey in them as it has this property and is so gentle and suitable for sensitive skin and baby care products.
  • Honey is a natural sweetener, hence it contains a variety of amino acids, vitamins and minerals essential to improve the body's metabolism therefore preventing obesity and promotes weight loss. In contrast to refined sugars which lacks minerals and vitamins.
  • Honey as a health remedy for many ailments such as athritis pain, coughs, sore throat, cold, athsma, yeast infection and athelete's foot.
Indeed there are many recipes which uses honey to treat all kinds of ailments or used as a beauty aid. However my favourite honey recipe is simply having honey with some water and some lime juice. Some say it's good for coughs, others say it's good for weight loss. Personally I just love the pick me up after a bad day feeling it has on me. The warm fuzzy feeling of honey and the strong zesty lime juice that revitalises you after a hard day's work.

With this in mind, remember to always keep a pot of honey in your house. You never know when you might need it, the benefits of honey are many and its all combined in to one. Until then look great and be happy always.

Happiness is .....

Just the other day I was watching this movie about some rich lady who lives in a big mansion. She seem to have it all, lots of money, a nice house, a loving husband, beautiful kids and lots of time to do whatever she wants. Yet blessed with all this prosperity, she was still unhappy. In fact she was miserable.

Which just makes us wonder about what is happiness? Is achieving your dream happiness. Is having lots of money happiness. Or is happiness having the time to spend with your loved ones. If all this is is true then why do many of us are still unhappy despite having achieved our dreams, having lots of money and time and having a wonderful family.

I believe that happiness is a state of mind or feeling of contentment, joy, satisfaction, pleasure and peace of mind. I've read a book a long time ago. I was a book by Anthony Robbins. Anyway somewhere in this book it mentioned about the importance of having a positive outlook on things. That despite all the problems or hardship you might be facing, things will not feel so bad if you respond to it positively. He talked about how using positive words that you say to yourself can actually affect the way you are feeling or responding to a situation.

For me happiness is about feeling contented with your life. The feeling of gratitude that no matter how gloomy things may look, there are others in this world who are in worst situation, yet they can still be contented with the basic necessities of life. The poor people in Africa or Afghanistan for example, who have to live in poverty and hardship most of the time. If you compare your life with theirs then maybe you could appreciate your life and be thankful for what you have now. So instead of feeling miserable and hoping for something more and comparing our lives with those who have more. We should look to those who have less and be contented with what you have now.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't work to improve your life and financial status but don't let it be your main agenda in life that it rules your life. For what good is all that money if you don't even have the time to spend it with your loved ones.

Peace of mind is possible if we allow it in our life. We could be in the most beautiful places on earth, like in Maldives with crystal clear water, the gentle ocean breeze, the soft sandy beach with coconut trees and endless blue sky but still feel miserable. Instead of feeling happy in such wonderful sorrounding we are feeling miserable because we worry about work, or worry what are kids are up to or a million other things that you worry about. Yet you could be in the comforts of your home but still feel happy and contented.

It doesn't really matter where you are or what you have but how well you respond to life that really counts. You may be out of job or recently divorced or facing some major problems in your life. Yet if you respond to all this problems positively you might discover that things are not so bad as it seems. That there is pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and that having survived through all this hardship have somehow made you stronger in life and yes amazingly be happy and contented with life and the hope that future brings.

So till next time, remember that happiness is not only what looks good on the surface but also the peace of mind and contenment that you feel within. Look great and be happy always.

Secrets to Younger Looking Skin

Almost everyone wants to look younger if they had choice. That's why anti aging products and cosmetic plastic surgery are making lots of money by fulfilling the demands of the people to look young.
The key to healthy, young looking skin lies in our lifestyle. It's not only what you put on your skin but what you eat and how you live that affects the state of your health and of your skin.
Here are some tips to help you maintain healthy, younger looking skin :-
  • Determine your skin type, whether it be oily, dry, sensitive or combination skin

  • Use skin products (cleanser, toner, scrub and moisturizer) that suits you skin type. If possible, pick one that's natural or organic and has the least chemical in them to prevent allergic reaction.

  • Eat well balanced meals with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidant content. Avoid greasy food, processed, refined sugars and caffeine. Eat foods high in zinc (aids in healing skin and prevents acne), nuts and seeds loaded with essential fatty acids vital to stimulate production of collagen and elastin to prevent wrinkling and sagging

  • Drink plenty of water to improve hydration and eliminate toxins in your system. Avoid sugary soft drinks, alcohol and caffeine instead try opting for fresh juice and green tea when you crave for them.

  • Avoid smoking cigarettes. Smoking accelarates the aging process by exposing you to the damaging effects of free radicals.

  • Exercise more as this improves the circulation, muscle toning, detoxification, promotes weight loss and helps melt away the stress. Exercise sets the right condition for the body to produce more collagen and elastin by itself naturally.

So the next time you think about younger looking skin, remember its not only about what you put on your skin or plastic surgery. Its about healthy eating and living a healthy lifestle too. Until then look great and be happy.

Recharge yourself - breathe properly

Have you ever seen a baby sleeping. They look so cute with their stomach going up and down like a balloon being inflated and deflated each time they breathe. Believe it or not breathing properly is something that babies do right naturally. Something that we as adults have somehow forgotten to do correctly. Most of us breathe from our chest (shallow breathing) and not from our stomach ( deep breathing) like babies.
Do you know that just by breathing correctly you can actually elevate the state of your health and happiness. Breathing oxygenates the body, revitalise every cells, tissues and organ in the body. Breathing correctly :
  • Energizes our body
  • Reduces carbon dioxide buildup
  • Improves our focus and concerntration
  • Helps us to relax and calm down
  • Reduces stress, tension and anxiety
  • Helps us to sleep better
  • Strenthens our immunity system
  • Lowers the blood pressure
  • Increases metabolism, aids digestion and weight loss
  • Eliminates toxins.

Improper breathing can cause problems to the systems in our body such as immune, circulatory, endocrine, nervous system. Not breathing properly produces :

  • Mental fog
  • Tension, stress and anxiety
  • Digestive problems
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Numbness, dizziness.
  • Sore muscles and aching legs

The key to breathing correctly is to use your abdomen rather than your chest. When you breathe, imagine there's a balloon in your stomach that inflates when you inhale and deflates as you exhale. When you breathe from your stomach you are filling the maximum capacity of lungs with air. However when you breathe from your chest, you only fill the top portion of of your lungs. This depletion of air is what makes us feel tired, stressed out and unmotivated in life.

So start breathing correctly to reap all the benefits it has on your physical and emotional being. It's something you can start right away, it's easy and it's free. Of course most of us take for it for granted until we face trouble breathing because of athsma or blocked nose.

Breathe properly and you're on your way to looking good and feeling happier. Start improving the quality of your life the safe, natural and easy way.
